7. Least favorite female character?

Valerie Gray

This is definitely iffy for me… I don’t outright hate any of the female characters. Not even Paulina. She’s a bitch, and that’s her character. I get past that pretty easily since she’s the preppy Phantom fangirl and doesn’t do much else.

Valerie does has good development, imo. She starts off as one of the shallow, rich kids and is offered friendship by the main gang when she loses everything and her “friends” reject her. It’s totally understandable how bitter she is toward everyone, and especially toward Phantom and ghosts in general. She doesn’t understand the entire story and assumes he wrecked her life for no apparent reason.

But when she manipulated Tucker to get close to Danny, and by extension his ghost-hunting family, I got frustrated with her. That was just senseless. All she had to do ask him or something equally simple, but she chooses to toy with Tucker instead. bitches don’t mess with my homeboy

Her rage with all ghosts, period, got really old very quickly as well. We get it Valerie- you hate Phantom. You hate ghosts. You want to destroy them all very thoroughly and systematically. We get it.

I detested her romance with Danny. Not because I prefer him with Sam and not because I don’t like her, but because it was such a warped situation and it felt too forced. For gods’ sakes, Danny, she tries to kill you on a nearly daily basis. It’s so damn messed up for him to get a crush on her while she’s going out of her way to annihilate him. At least Sam’s rage/jealousy was justified. It was a forced relationship with little development to distract him from the real problem, and as soon as that problem was solved, anything he and Valerie had crumbled immediately. Didn’t even last very long.

I’m glad she mellows out a bit at the end. Her kindness toward Dani in “D-stabilized” was both surprising and very welcome. I have no problem with her being the tough hunter chick in a snazzy suit; I just don’t like her vicious attitude about ghosts. I’m assuming she apologizes to Danny, as well, after the events of Phantom Planet. I can’t imagine trying to kill an ex-boyfriend sits very well with her.
